JIGME: the known Bhutanese
If Bhutan is well known
throughout the world for its pristine environment, unique culture and
traditional value and of course, not to mention about Gross National Happiness
the guiding principle/philosophy for development, it is our bravest and great
rulers that made our country more popular. They not only made our country one of
the most peaceful places to live but also made people know about humanity and
love for each other.
For the kingdom of Thailand,
His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuk is well known, respected and
worshiped by all most every people here. His Majesty’s visit to Thailand in
2006 during the 60th anniversary of the king of Thailand was very
remarkable, where his majesty vowed and smiled at everyone touching the hearts
of every people. Since then, the people of Thailand were very much enthralled
by his Majesty’s generosity and gentleness.
They (people of Thailand) were very fond of His Majesty that they started
calling ‘Jigme’ to every Bhutanese
in Thailand, and it isn’t of any surprise that if they find us with Fifty ngultrum
note, on which His Majesty’s image is printed, they would immediately snatch it
from our hand.
Their admiration and appreciation was shown not only to His Majesty
himself but also to his people (fellow
citizens of Bhutan). If we go to the shopping malls, no sooner we bring to
their notice that we are from Jigme’s
country (it’s how they call),
they would offer us discounts. Grand celebrations in Bhutan such as Coronation
of His Majesty and Royal Wedding were watched live through internet by many
people in Thailand.
It is a great privilege
for us to be in Thailand solely because of His Majesty and in deed very proud
to be Bhutanese under the dynamic and glorious reign of His Majesty the King.
May the sun of peace and happiness continue to shine over the land of Druk-yul.
LONG LIVE OUR KING.
