Tick...
tick …tick… the hand of the second moves, minutes passes by and hours goes without
any hold bringing tremendous changes to the universe. With the non-stop
movement of clock born the monsoon season. For many would enjoy as it goodbye the
chill and dry dust of winter, pouring placid shower to loosen the soil, waters
the withering flowers and desiccated trees, cleanse the dirt greening the
environment and more importantly for it breaks the dawn of a bountiful season
where trees bear fruits, flowers blossom and birds chirp. Yet it wasn't so
cheerful for the people of Thailand. So unexpected and surprising the monsoon
season was the cause of fear in the minds of Thai people.
It
has caused a massive destruction where more than one third of Thailand is submerged
under water. Properties of worth $5.1 billion were smashed, more than 500
people were killed and millions were left homeless. No single mind was left un-kissed
by the fear of flooding where every buildings and condominiums were surrounded
by thick walls of sand bags possibly to prevent the inflow of water.

Shinawatra International University |
Besides
flooding the whole of Pathumthani (the most affected state) Shinawatra
International University stands so firm like an island. No severe destruction
has occurred to the university structures though a bit to the beautiful landscape.
No high ways were visible except for the tall trees alongside the road showing
the direction for the motorists (only big trucks were able to ply through the road
due to high water level).

During flood |
Despite
numerous ways and means enforced by the Thai government the water has swamped
over the highways and threatened the city centre. Most of the shopping malls
and business centre plazas remained closed. However, with the passage of time
the flood is almost subsided and the government is copping up well yet prone to
any kind of diseases due to the flood. It was the worst flood ever in the
history of Thailand.
Nevertheless,
for us (foreign students at SIU) it didn’t have much ill-effect as everything
was taken care by the university if not for the delay in the semester by a
month. A fresh semester began at the graduate campus in Bangkok couple of weeks
ago and now we are once again back to the main campus. The classes are in full
swing and everything is flowing so swiftly. We had a home coming part with the
alumni and staff on Sunday. We are happy to be back: free from the earsplitting
town and traffic jam.
happy blogging....
