Is the quality of education in Bhutan really deteriorating? This has been a big issue concerning the people of Bhutan. And as well I being a youth of Bhutan let me take this platform to jot down my perspective on this issue.

Well it was in 2008, right after completing my plus 2 (XII) and before the scheduled date of reporting to my college. I was enrolled in Royal Education Council as a data enumerator for couple of months for a survey on Testing the quality of teachers in Bhutan. Royal Education Council has prepared a set of questionnaires and we took it to respective schools. Besides fulfilling the aims and objectives of the survey/REC I took an advantage and intervene with the teachers from different schools across the country in regard to the quality of education. I could get to hear different opinions and perceptions, complains and suggestions, ways and means to improve upon and so on. From which I could draw the following conclusions. The quality of education in Bhutan seems to be deteriorating as

1)     In the olden days a child is enrolled in the schools only at the age of ten or twelve, at which they gets matured and  have their potential to understand better and implement productively. But on the contrary a child begins his/her education at the age of four or five at the present scenario. They join their schooling as very innocent little kids and starts out as naives on a crazy adventure. Where their tendency and ability to grasp and comprehend would be much inferior and undeveloped. Thus seems to be ineffective and puny.

2)    In the past most of the parents are illiterate and uninformed and when they could perceive their children doing something unique and worthwhile due to their access to education, they regard them with honor and dignity. Thus holds the pride and delight of literacy. In contrast to that most of the parents today are educated and well informed to the extent of their capabilities to motivate and discipline their child. In addition they could also figure out lots of blunder and mistakes in their children whereby they refer them to be incapable and futile.

3)    Under the wise and dynamic leadership of the farsighted kings, with their actions and with their words they empower the youths and encourage them to step up to realize that the future lies in their hands and they can bring a change. Furthermore the policy of free education has engrossed and captivated more and more number of students. This drastic increase in number of students (strength of the class) and limited expert teachers or instructors could have possibly mired in providing the best education.

Nonetheless, there are people who also think that the quality hasn’t really gone down and they do have their own justifications.
